Wednesday Devo: “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” - 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
What gets us down in this world? Homework. School drama. Peer pressure. Politics. Diseases. Job woes. Financial woes.
Not so encouraging, right? But wait! We have HOPE!
Jesus said when we cast our cares on Him the burden is easy(Luke 14:27). Paul wrote to us that our afflictions are light and momentary(2 Cor. 4:16-18), and are not worth comparing with the glory to be revealed to us for eternity(Rom. 8:18). James drives it home by saying that our trials only strengthen our faith(James 1:18), because we have to lean on God to get through them. It is no coincidence that ‘gospel’ means good news. This is joy-filling, life-giving, strength-sustaining, glory-revealing news.
So this means all will be perfect! Nope. We live in a broken, fallen world. This means that we have someone to focus on during trials--Christ. This means we have a foundation of truth to come back to when our faith wavers and situations cause doubt--God’s Word. This means our God is sovereign over everything good and bad.
Preach these words to yourself. Talk to God about it.
