ONLY ONE WAY
Wednesday Devo: Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me…” – John 14:6
What powerful words spoken by Jesus himself that is the core of the Gospel message. We often hear that there are many ways to God and heaven through other religions, and that it is fine. You believe what you want and I believe what I want. All roads lead to the same destination, right? What does it matter how you get there? This plainly contradicts what John tells us Jesus proclaimed to his disciples. It is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, and not by works(Ephesians 2:8-9). The road to God is one not traveled by many. It looks very different from the path the world walks. We are told we will look funny to them, as strangers in a foreign land(2 Peter 2:11). People will even dislike us and be mean to us because we follow the path of the Gospel(John 15:18-25). Even some who declare themselves to be Christian, still walk a worldly path(Matthew 7:21, Revelation 3:18). That does not end well. The road you walk, and the life you live is a dead giveaway. Pause for a moment and reflect on the road you are on. Does it reflect the directions set out in the Bible for Godly living, or are you trying to keep one foot on the worldly walkway? The path of the Gospel and the path of the world split. You cannot travel both.
Robert Frost nails this idea perfectly in the closing stanzas of his poem ‘The Road Not Taken’. "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." How true. Following the Gospel makes all the difference. Share the directions in the Bible with everyone you can.
